Christmas is a pressing time of year for many families across New Zealand. In recent years there has been a surge in low food security, meaning more Kiwis are struggling to feed themselves and their families. More families are turning to food banks for help and charities like the Salvation Army saw an increase of twelve percent between 2016 and 2017. This year, charities have struggled to keep up and already, organisations like Auckland City Mission have had families queuing from early hours of the morning and they have had to turn away families because they didn’t have enough food to keep up with the demand.
As a family, our values and purpose is to help ‘Our People’. Our people being our staff, our customers, our consumers, and our community. So, we have teamed up with Big Chill our distribution company and donated over 88,000 pastries across New Zealand this Christmas. We are sending 73,000 pastries to the Salvation Army and this is supporting around 23,000 families nationwide. We then asked the public where we should send the additional 15,000 pies so we could make sure everyone gets the opportunity, and the public voted! Suggestions were made near and far to help selfless Kiwis out there doing their best to help those in need.
15,000 pies will be spread across the following sites:
Auckland City Mission, Auckland
Waitara Food Bank, North Taranaki
Oamaru Food Bank, Oamaru
Care Packages Marlborough, Marlborough
Pappa’s Kitchen, Wellsford
Love Soup, Hibiscus Coast
Community Kai Rotorua, Rotorua
Kaibosh, Wellington
Kiwiharvest, Auckland
We’ve been around since 1981, and from the get-go we’ve strived to supply top quality pies. As a family owned and operated business, we feel privileged to be able to help our community and make a significant impact. Amazing Kiwis have supported us for many years now, so Dad wanted to return the favour. This time of year, it is about taking time to appreciate and spend time with friends and family, so from our Family here at Dad’s Pies to yours, we wish everyone a very safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
